Digital Divide

Information technology has been integrated into many aspects of the society such as health, education and business. This diversity has ushered in a new era of technological advancement which has enhanced the related systems by improving their performances. Ritzhaupt, Liu, Dawson and Barron (2013) view the digital divide as a social change that has brought revolution to the digital generation whereby the people involved conduct most of their activities online. Dr. Ritzhaupt is an associate professor in the University of Florida and a specialist in Educational technology. The young generation and children get entertainment, education and engage in business online. The article critically discusses the application of technology in the modern age and the technological impact on the society.

The authors further argue on factors that hinder the accessibility of technology. Some of the variables provided are demographic factors, regulatory frameworks and unavailability of appropriate infrastructure. The beneficiaries of technological advancement are the students in colleges, consumers involved in digital business and researchers in the health sector and telecommunication.
